It has been a busy year for many people, and that is no different for those of here at WorkersCompensation.com. We’ve been diligently planning a few exciting new projects; one of which I can announce, but the others must for now remain cloaked in secrecy and intrigue. Oh, and another of those new ideas is an old one that may be gaining new life. More on that in a moment…
What I can tell you is that we are finally stepping into the world of the “podcast,” with our new program, “Straight Outta Workers’ Comp.” Hosted by yours truly, it will be a 30 – 45 minute program released every Friday that looks at pressing issues facing the workers’ compensation industry. Well, actually, we can talk about whatever I feel like talking about.
As Mel Brooks repeatedly said in the movie History of the World, Part I, “It’s good to be the king.”
We originally hoped to launch the show in December, but we were delayed as I’ve had to work to overcome my persistent shyness.
Straight Outta Workers’ Comp will, among other offerings, present two recurring theme programs. One, “Meet Your Regulator,” will feature workers’ compensation administrators from around the country. Over the years I’ve had the honor of meeting many of the people tasked with running the various workers’ compensation systems in this nation, and I’ve been greatly impressed by them. Given a generally thankless task and working within the confines of legislative edicts in their states, they are for the most part dedicated people looking to provide the necessary balance in our sometimes acrimonious world. These programs will give the broader industry the opportunity to meet these folks and learn about the actual people who guide our industry.
The other themed show we will occasionally offer is “What Kind of Moron Does That?” That program will review “news of the stupid” (both workers’ comp related and not) with appropriate commentary regarding the topic du jour. If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you probably realize that concept is definitely in my wheelhouse. I must note that “Meet Your Regulator” and “What Kind of Moron Does That?” are NOT the same episodes; just in case some of you more jaded souls were wondering.
There are two other new projects we are working on that I am very excited about. Both involve partnering with people who are some of the brightest minds in our industry, and both are geared to improving the workers’ compensation system for the years ahead. I’ll look forward to divulging more information on those plans as they come closer to fruition.
And finally, what is old may become new again. Just over two weeks ago I posited the question, “Should CompBob! Return?” While the survey included in that post doesn’t close until next week, the current indications are running heavily in his favor. Overwhelmingly so. In fact, there may be no living with him after he sees the results. As I indicated then, he was already a bit of a prima donna. But there appears to be a strong chance he will be making a comeback.
It’s been a very busy time here, but we think the effort will be worth it. Watch for the official podcast announcement next week. We hope you will join us.
