If you were to ask me who I would expect to find featured in the pages of a Firefighters Calendar, the answer, “A Workers’ Compensation Agency Director” would not be one of my responses. Yet, it appears that I would be mistaken, as the latest release of the number one firefighter calendar in the world contains just such a person.

Paul Tauriello, Director of Colorado’s Division of Workers’ Compensation, is a volunteer firefighter. And for this next year he will grace the cover of the 2019 Colorado Firefighters Calendar.

I think they should use that picture on the Division website. I mean, who would seriously screw with that guy? You will note that he is not trying to put the fire out. There is a message there, I’m telling you.

The calendar, which may be purchased here, is an annual fundraiser supporting the Burn Center and Burn Camps program of Children’s Hospital Colorado. Tauriello had to audition for the honor, in what was described to me by an anonymous tipster as a “Chip & Dale‘s kind of contest.” The organization behind the calendar says it has raised over $565,000 for the cause over the last six years.

I chose the most modest of the audition pictures I was provided…

This is a pretty big deal, and in the world of workers’ compensation, practically unheard of. Not all of us with rockin’ bods take the time to participate in a beefcake calendar for a good cause. I had the opportunity recently, although to be honest, my project was more cake than beef. OK, it was the “Boys of Krispy Kreme” calendar. And it didn’t sell well. I’m not sure why.

For the guys out there who are not interested in a calendar of partially dressed firefighters, they have you covered. There is something in this year’s issue for everyone, and they have doubled the number of female firefighters over the previous year. Let’s just say that March and September will be months to look forward to in 2019.

Besides, this is for a very good cause. The calendar is only $20 and is available here through Amazon. Buy one today.

Help the kids, while keeping comp cool.
