Entitled “Impairing the Guides: The Legal Assault on the 6th Edition,” it will take an in depth look at what is behind the legal challenges we are seeing around the nation to the 6thedition of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment. Our guests will be attorney and author Alan Pierce, and physician and author Dr. Chris Brigham. Pierce is host of the podcast “Workers’ Comp Matters” heard on the Legal Talk Network, and Brigham is Senior Contributing Editor for the AMA Guides Sixth edition and Editor of the AMA Guides Newsletter. He is also author of the book, “Living Abled.”

The 6th Edition of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment have been the target of numerous court challenges of late, largely rooted in issues related to disability determination. Use of the guides has been determined to be unconstitutional in some states. We will ask our guests if the Guides can survive, as well as discuss the details of some of these cases. We want to know, when it comes to disability ratings and evaluation of impairment, what can we expect in the future?
